nazire – leech
A leech is a strange thing to name a song this gentle after. nazire’s “leech” doesn’t bite: it hangs on, slow and a little sweet, an ache that won’t go anywhere because nobody really wants it to.
The Istanbul singer-songwriter wrote, composed and arranged it herself, with 888hz on production, recording and mixing and Görkem Yılmaz mastering. It first came out as a single in June and now sits second on her album “glitchfolk”, due December 4 on Lost Wisdom. The title is a fair description of the sound: grainy, glitchy fluctuations that slowly give way to folk warmth, with indie guitar and a bit of bedroom shoegaze haze over pop-leaning beats.
I’d file it somewhere between slowcore and shoegaze and leave it there. The texture does the talking, and the song is better for not explaining itself.
